Tiny houses for families in need near Dud, Arad
In the region around Dud in Arad County (Romania), many families live in very difficult circumstances. Not only do they lack permanent accommodation, but often also access to education, work and basic infrastructure. In many cases, living conditions are characterized by insecurity and a lack of prospects.
On March 9, 2025, our team visited the village of Tauz to take a look at a special site that offers potential for a long-term social project. The site is home to a total of 104 tiny houses - small, simple residential buildings that are largely unused.
The current situation on site
The site is extensive and has already been partially developed. The condition of the tiny houses varies:
33 houses have already been renovated but do not yet have sanitary facilities.
27 houses are in need of renovation.
There are also several foundations on which new houses could be built.
The site also includes areas that are suitable for the construction of a campsite or other uses.
Opportunities for further development
The existing infrastructure offers various development opportunities. For example, the tiny houses could be renovated in the medium term and made usable for families who currently have no permanent accommodation. In combination with accompanying measures such as training courses, community rooms or social services, a long-term project could be created here.
It would also be conceivable to use parts of the site commercially - for example, for a small campsite. The resulting income could be reinvested in educational measures, infrastructure or social programs.
Objective
The aim of the project idea is to develop the existing location into a functioning settlement with a social character. The aim is not only to provide housing, but also to promote quality of life and social participation for particularly disadvantaged population groups.
Conclusion
The site in Tauz near Dud offers a special opportunity thanks to the existing Tiny Houses: with appropriate planning, coordination and support, a model project could be developed here that creates long-term living space and development prospects for disadvantaged families.
With the right support, this abandoned place in Tauz can become a safe home - a place where families can find peace, children can grow up in safety and new perspectives can emerge.
